INTRODUCTION

Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory is a team based online first person shooter. It is a free download and so a cash outlay or any kind of illegal software piracy [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/piracy.jpg) is unneccessary. It's just a quick download from the web.

The game can be enjoyed by a wide variety of players [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/player1.jpg) [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/player2.jpg).

A normal PC is usually capable of coping with ET but sometimes you may wish to go for a custom setup [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/custom1.jpg) [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/custom2.jpg) or overclock which may require additional air [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/aircooled.jpg) or even liquid [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/watercooled.jpg) cooling. For the bast gameplay you may just wish to cough up for the latest technology [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/latesttechnology.jpg).

Once you have set youself up with the software you now need to run it up and connect to a server via the internet. Servers are normally powerful machines connected to fast internet links [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/server1.jpg) [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/server2.jpg).

GAMEPLAY

Enemy Territory is set in World War Two with two opposing sides, Allies [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/allies.jpg) and Axis [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/axis.jpg).

Generally each round is played on a single map [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/map.jpg) with an objective, one team defending the other attacking and each starting from a specific location known as a spawn point [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/spawnpoint.jpg). Quite often this involves escorting a vehicle such as a tank [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/tank1.jpg), truck [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/truck1.jpg) or in some custom maps even a boat [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/boat1.jpg).

To vary gameplay maps cover a variety of terrains such as desert [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/desert.jpg), beach [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/beach.jpg) or snow [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/snow.jpg).

The skills a player is endowed with depends on which class they choose to play. The choices are:

Soldier [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/soldier1.jpg)
A soldier posesses the skills to carry and use heavy weapons such as a mobile heavy machine gun [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/mobilemg.jpg) or the infamous panzerfaust [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/panzerfaust.jpg)

Medic [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/medic1.jpg)
Medics are able to give first aid in the field and even revive fallen comrades [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/revive.jpg).

Engineer [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/engineer1.jpg)
An engineer is critical to most maps. He is able to destroy objectives with dynamite and construct useful structures such as Command Posts [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/commandpost.jpg) and Machine Gun Towers [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/mgtower.jpg).

Field Ops [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/fieldops1.jpg)
A field ops can call in support from outside resources such as artillery [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/artillery.jpg) and air strikes [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/airstrike.jpg) as well as supplying ammunition to teammates [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/ammo.jpg).

Covert Ops [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/covertops1.jpg)
Covert Ops is one of the most fun classes to play. As well as being an expert sniper [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/sniper.jpg) he can steal the uniform of a deceased enemy soldier so as to sneak behind enemy lines [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/stolenuniform.jpg) and satchel-bomb strategic objectives [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/satchelbomb.jpg) or check for landmines [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/checkforlandmines.jpg). Always watch your back if you think there may be an enemy covert around [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/watchyourback.jpg). Being knifed in the back is commonly known as being 'goated' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/goated.jpg).

As you progress and you use your specific skills you will be given experience points ('XP' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/xp.jpg)), gain improved skills and be given medals for being best at a specific skill at the end of a round [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/medals.jpg).

CHAT

Enemy Territory has a very useful quickchat system which enables you with a few keypresses to immediately voice an order or situation update to other members of your team or fireteam [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/fireteam.jpg). Some of the phrases you may hear during a match are listed below:

'Fire in the hole!' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/fireinthehole1.jpg)
'I'm a field ops.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/imafieldops1.jpg)
'Oops!' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/oops1.jpg)
'Provide sniper cover.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/providesnipercover1.jpg)
'I'm a soldier.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/imasoldier1.jpg)
'Hallo.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/hallo1.jpg)
'Enemy in disguise.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/enemyindisguise1.jpg)

'I need backup.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/ineedbackup1.jpg)
'Repair the vehicle.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/repairthevehicle1.jpg)
'I need a medic.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/ineedamedic1.jpg)
'Heal me.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/healme1.jpg)
'Defuse the dynamite.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/defusethedynamite1.jpg)
'Wunderbar!' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/wunderbar1.jpg)
'We need an engineer.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/weneedanengineer1.jpg)
'Explore the area.' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/explorethearea1.jpg)

Of course you can chat normally during gameplay as well. Often 'LEET' ('l33t', '1337') phrases are used such as 'LOL' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/lol1.jpg) ,'OMG' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/omg1.jpg) and a variety of 'smilies' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/smilies.jpg). It is a good idea to familiarise yourself with leet before commencing gameplay [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/leet1.jpg) [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/leet2.jpg).

Do no overuse the chat facility or you could incur the wrath of other players [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/stfunoob.jpg).

COURTESY

Always remember to be courteous to other players on the server [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/courtesy.jpg). Always apologise if you inadvertantly kill or injure one of your teammates [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/accident.jpg) and never retalliate if they injure or kill you [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/retalliation.jpg). Most importantly always show full respect for the server admins [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/respect.jpg).

CHEATING

Cheating is frowned upon in all servers, though the rules can be different across servers. Additional code to assist with aim or to enable you to effectively see through walls is the most common form of cheating, known as a 'bot' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/bot.jpg). Another thing which is commonly seen as cheating is hanging around critical areas such as the enemy base to make quick and easy kills, known as 'camping' [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/camping.jpg). If you are not certain which rules apply on any server you can always ask one of the server administrators [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/admins.jpg).

CLANS

As you become more skilled you may be invited to join a gaming clan [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/clan.jpg). This is a group of players who play matches competitively either online or at lan parties [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/lanparty.jpg). Be careful which clan you choose to join as it can be difficult over the web to tell who your clanmates are [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/dodgyclan1.jpg) or how experienced they might be [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/dodgyclan2.jpg).

REAL LIFE

At the end of the day remember Enemy Territory is just a game. Remember to take regular breaks from gameplay [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/regularbreaks.jpg) and try not to carry any animousity from gameplay into the real world [+] (http://www.itv-clan.org.uk/guide/realworld.jpg).
