Just to clarify -

you're saying if my fps is capped at 76, these would be the variables to set to 76? (assuming my monitor handles a 76 refresh rate):

seta com_maxfps "76"
seta cl_maxpackets "76"
seta r_displayrefresh "76"

what are maxpackets again?
do they have to do with the fps?
i think i used to know but i cant really remember...
i was mainly wondering what the signifigance is of having the same number...
i was told the higher the maxpackets the better.
at one point i thought i knew but i hear dif things from dif people so i dunno :p

ya you want them all the same the higher the better but depends on monitor, from what ive seen on mine it makes screen more crisp and smooth.i actually saw sixers helping someone with this so i figured i try it,i like it but thats my opinion.

Nice tweak. I think both schools of thought are right, just different settings for different systems. And what the user prefers

I remember reading SOMEWHERE a while ago, that there were two 'magic' numbers for com_maxfps that takes advantage of the way the rendering engine works - 76 and...can't remember the second, but was just over 100. And that you should set the maxfps to that value which you can consistently achieve to get optimum performance.
So if you set your fps to say 110, but your fps drops below that number pretty regularly, that you should set it to 76.

Today I tried setting the values at 200 and noticed that while I would occasionally get 200, for the most part I was fluctuating between 90 and 140. I'm pretty sure that's why I had the fps capped at 76 cuz I can't consistently get more than 90.

The picture DID seem to be pretty sharp, but not for sure if it was any better than normal. Think I'll go back to the 76 and leave the displayrefresh setting at 76 as well.

Thanks for the tip!

That second magic number is 125.

Or if you've got a really crappy computer (most likely it's not that crappy - you just haven't tweaked other settings yet), 43 is another one of those so-called "magic numbers." Another one is 333, if you want to be Mr. Overkill.

If you're trying to do trickjumping or whatnot, you might also want to set pmove_fixed to "1" (not sure if this setting does anything in NQ though?...).

These are the Magic Numbers (

333
250
200
166
142
125
111
100
90
83
76
71
66
62
58
55

For the Magic Number to Work you need type in the Console "pmove_fixed 1"

Then in Console there is a Command called "pmove_msec" the default for this is 8ms, you need to adjust this for the Magic Number to Work

e.g. (if you get a constant 125FPS keep it at 8msec )

pmove_msec 8 ~~~~~~ 1000 / 8 = 125
pmove_msec 13 ~~~~~~ 1000 / 13 = 76

--------------------

Since Most Monitors can do 100HZ and if your computer can keep at a constant 100+FPS then use this Config for the smoothest Results

pmove_fixed 1
pmove_msec 10
com_maxfps 100
cl_maxpackets 100

to the same number, mine is at 76 really depends on your monitors max refresh rate.

setting display_refresh to anything above 60Hz is not compatible for ET core engine, ET's maximum compatible refresh is 60 anything higher will create issues
in different areas of the game and seriously make your cpu and ram overwork.
